Mason by @bryant_alsop_architects transforms a late Victorian house from ‘ugly duckling’ to future-facing family home. 🌿 The singular form of the extension is defined by the rhythm and repetition of curved elements that are used as simple, broad sweeping gestures. Hard materials are tempered by soft shapes to create enveloping spaces. Head to The Local Project to view the full Project Gallery. Nestled within swaths of Moonah and tea tree is a new home designed by @lovell_burton Architecture for a professional couple seeking a seaside retreat in the coastal town of Barwon Heads. 🌿 The form, orientation and materials of the dwelling respond to the extreme coastal conditions that define the site, while the home has also been designed to seamlessly open, close, expand and contract to meet the fluctuating needs of the family. A traditional workers’ cottage is transformed by interior designer @fionalynchoffice into a refined and dynamic home that reflects the identity of its owner, Melbourne artist @tomadair_. ⚡️ True to the Fiona Lynch Studio’s design sensibility, the home is richly layered with tactile materials. A sophisticated base palette of polished plaster, grey marble, white steel and natural oak is punctuated with playful bursts of rose-tinted mirror, bright colour accents and polished brass details. Throughout the entire project, @_zetr_ products were specified as “the power points are so minimalist that it allowed us to have more power points throughout the house for convenience,” Tom says. The overhaul of an existing Edwardian home that respectfully fuses period elements through a contemporary lens. 💭 Brighton East Residence sees @megowanarchitectural retain the existing charm of the era-specific home, opening up its northern end to an expansive deck and lushly landscaped outdoor area. Undeniably, the hero is the reworked wood fireplace and hearth, where a gravitational pull encourages an audience. First Lessons House by @raydinharch sits low amongst the existing myrtle and tea-trees, at the back corner of the site, overlooking the Portsea Lagoon and Wildlife Reserve. 🌿 The house is an attempt to get the basics right – to create a house that responds to its context and the owner’s daily habits. Today on The Local Project, in collaboration with @_zetr_, we sit down with artist @tomadair_ to discuss the @fionalynchoffice design of his home, a workers’ cottage in the inner-Melbourne suburb of Richmond. 💭 True to the design sensibility of Fiona Lynch, the home is richly layered with tactile materials and enlivened with Tom’s art collection and unexpected, hidden playful details. ZETR’s trimless, fully-flush and recessed electrical outlets and switches were crucial to achieving the design intention, allowing the materials to speak for themselves and also discreetly powering Tom’s neon artworks. As featured on The @armadilloandco Series - Edsall Street by @ritzghougassian takes habitation as its primary focus, from which emerges an architectural language that, in turn, influences form. 💭 Every aspect of Edsall Street is informed by the architects’ focus on the experience of habitation that the design creates for the occupants, giving the project a heart around which everything coalesces. In this way, Ritz&Ghougassian enliven and bring meaning to the strong minimalist architectural form. The Egyptian collection by Armadillo & Co adds a subtle layer of texture and softness, the while the simplicity and linearity of rugs emphasise the linearity of the blockwork.
